The language pack shouldnt cause any problems. When you reboot does the computer attempt an autologon and fail with a bad password, or does nothing happen?

I too would be interested in the source for this, I haven't actually tried it out but from the description, it sounds like a Vista/Credential Provider implementation of the KioskUser sample from the widely cited MSDN Gina Replacement articles by Keith Brown. (With a securely stored password.) Is it? N.

we are using <a href="http://www.logonexpert.com/" LogonExpert autologon software</a> because autologon.exe is seriuos vulnerability for it saves logon\password information into registry.

Alex, make sure you run Command Prompt as Administrator (for example rightclick Command Prompt-shortcut and choose Run as administrator). Works well for me!

Problem when an account was renamed before using autologon: autologon will not work with the new account name (password not accepted - duplicating the account name on the logon screen). I used the first account name instaead with autologon - and it worked, logging to the (newly renamed) account.

3 spaces required for the command to execute properly: The Command: Autologon.exe /Set /Username: yourusername Where to place the spaces: Space between .exe and /Set between /Set and /Username: and between /Username: and yourusername

OR... You can just run "netplwiz" and uncheck the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" box and voilá: you will now be logged in without entering your password.

That is that's built in, the "netplwiz" command. So basically this util is redundant.

Is there any reason the autologon will not work in Vista 64? I have used it on 3 other computers but they are Vista 32 and they all worked great.... Any ideas? I ran it elevated and double checked the username and password that I used.

Same issue here, not working on Vista X64. Seems like if 64-bit is the new direction for MS then these tools shoudl work on both 32 and 64 bit.

Again: you all with X64 issues. Press win+r, type in netplwiz and press enter. That brings up a dialog with the option "User must enter a user name and password to use this computer." uncheck the box and press ok. Done!

To Netero, and Simon: for win XP/2K netplwiz is only going to help you if you have one account. There is no where to specify which account is for autologon on "User and Passwords" window (= netplwiz )

Doesn't work...userpasswords2 doesn't work...adding DefaultXxx + AutoAdminLogon + ForceAutoLogon in registry doesn't work...netplwiz trick doesn't work. I can't seem to find anyway to cause an autologon to happen after a logoff. After a reboot yes...after logoff no dice. I tried switching off fast user switching via group policy still no love. Help?

To those wondering why it doesn't work on 64-bit Vista: The problem is that there are separate HKLM hives for 64- and 32-bit processes, and WINLOGON.EXE only reads the 64-bit one (oops). This tool, being 32-bit, sets the right registry values, but they have no effect. :-(

Response to Scott_R [1 Sep 2007]: "netplwiz" does work with multiple users. Simply highlight the applicable user to which the auto logon applies. My problem is that I want a second account to auto-login (in the background). Does autologon.exe provide this functionality?

Can somebody explain the following strange behaviour? When I logoff from my WinXP account, the system automatically logs in again. I checked the settings in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon hive. All values seem to be OK and are not different from the values on another machine, where this strange behaviour does not occur. I appreciate very much your help!!

this is way better and easier to use AND it's free. The way it should be. All GUI and free, can't beat that. For users who are not familiar in registry, I suggest they use WindowsAutoLogin (app) tool to configure their Windows auto login. WindowsAutoLogin is a FREE GUI tool created by IntelliAdmin that will help users to configure everything in registry, users just have to keyin the username, password and domain one time and it will auto configure for it. This free tools currently support Windows 2000, XP and Vista

Nice tool indeed. Just got a small question, is there a way to remove or to auto accept the license agreement so we can use this in a script?
